You Should be Fishing with Pablo!!!

June 27 2008

SHARKING

Decided to hit the Ocean Friday for some SHARK'S

Had John (Sparky1871) and Good Buddy Tim out with me today.  Pablo headed South East 20 miles out to the second set of fingers. The water temp was 68-70 Degrees wave height was 2 to 4 feet in a swell. Winds out of the SE  10 knots.

We set up our Chum Slick 3 lines out by 8 AM. It didn't take long for the 1st Shark to show up at the Boat. The Mako Magnet (an electronic Devise that make a wounded Fish Noise) worked better than expected.

I Pitched the Big Blue Shark a Nice Blue Fish Filet and it was off to the races. John Quickly put the belt on and fought the Shark. This was John's 1st Time Sharking He was STOKED!!!

JOHN'S VIDEO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCXbknOrIDM

It didn't take long to bring him in and we RELEASED him and re set our line again. I'd est the Shark to be 150 LBS or so.

JOHN'S SHARK AT THE BOAT VIDEO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XS5bl4TeWA

About another hour went by maybe less and The Rod started Screaming again. I jumped up set the hook and Timmy Fought the Second Shark.

LOL Like my Gold Tooth

TIMMY'S SHARK VIDEO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUBbv7FHukQ

Tim's Shark Put up one Hell of a fight. Had Timmy all sweating and huffing and puffing by the time we got it to the boat. It made Several runs and we even had to move the boat once or twice. We also had another BIGGER BLUE circling the boat. I got the Gaff ready but we didn't need it BIG BLUE SHARK

We Released Tim's Shark too and re set once again.

Then the Far Line went off and I set the hook. All of a sudden the Gears in the reel a 9.0 Senator gave out and I had no Drag to fight this Fish. I couldn't stop this big Shark and it made a BIG SPLASH on the surface and that was all I could do was hold on and SNAP!!! Over in less than 60 seconds.

well we reset 2 Rods Back out and then it was Pablo's turn to fight a Fish. Tim was setting the short line out when he hit.

I made quick work of this one I'd say again around 175 to 200 LBS another BLUE SHARK.

So it was Lunch time now and the wind slowed down and so did the drift. After about 1/2 hour Tim and John were falling a sleep. Pablo being the Optimist never vered from the game plan. And the Middle line went off again. This time John was on again and this one fought a lot harder than the 1st one.

Hey John Use the above Picture for your NE Avatar

So the total for the day was 4 Big Blue Sharks and 1 lost Thresher I believe judging on the way it splashed on the surface. No Mako's today but we will be back soon enough to try again.

Pablo catch and Release of a 40-44 LBS BASS

About a month ago my cousin Dan Moruzzi called me and said Pablo me and my buddies want to go fishing for some BIG BASS

. I said Dan call Bob Roccehetta of www.RainbowCharters.net and he booked June 24 2008. On Monday Dan called me and said Cousin 2 of my guys dropped out can you fill the spots

. I Immediately send out an e mail to all my fishing friends and Carlos and Chris Nappi answered the call

We got to the boat 4 PM and was greeted to a warm welcome from Bob Roccehetta. I know what your thinking, Bob? Nice?? Friendly??? I heard all the rumors too lol. But I was surprised that he was one of the Nicest Captains I've been on a boat with. But don't let him fool ya you miss a big fish he's gonna say something... Anyway we had fun all night ribbing each other and all. So we set out buck tailing  and EVERYONE caught fish so many our Arms were hurting. We limited out before it even got dark.

Kevin the 1st Mate was on and he put 5 in this HUGE live well so we could hunt some TROPHY BASS. We drew Straws to see who would go 1st.

PABLO your up. Before my Porgie hit the bottom I had a HUGE FISH ON!!! Of course I yell out those famous words Pablo On!!!  And so the battle begins. Bob says Pablo tip up and don't horse her you got a BIG ONE ON!!!   I fought her good and steady and got her to the boat quickly. Kevin did a Mint job with the net and then the BIG SCREAM OF JOY PABLO LET OUT.

Bob says Pablo you want to keep her or let her go, I said lets let her go I don't need to kill such a beautiful Fish. We quickly snap a few pic's .

That fish was 48" Long and Based on this table est 40 to 44 LBS

BASE SIZE TABLE

and I open the side door and begin to revive her. I started to worry  that she wouldn't make it at 1st but I kept saying come on, you can do it, Bite down on my thumb.  I had my thumb in her mouth and it was WIDE open getting a lot of water to pass over her gills. I began to really want this fish to take off and for a few seconds which felt like FOREVER I was worried that she wasn't going to make it. Then she did a bite down on my thumb but I didn't let go. Her fins then went straight up and she really bit down on my thumb this time I knew she would swim away and that's exactly what she did.

We'll I can't explain the endorphin rush that came over me. I was shaking but didn't let on. Everyone cheered and I shook Bob's hand.

I said Bob that was the Biggest Bass I ever caught and I can't thank you enough. Do you know what Bob said to Pablo? In a smart al lick way, Sorry it took so long, and everyone burst out laughing!!! Well that was it for me I sat down Lit my CUBAN CIGAR  and said can we go home now
Next up was Carlos he too got a big Cow on right away. The only problem with Carlos fish was that it swallowed  the Porgy so deep we had no choice but to keep that one.

Video click here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk_a4j8Uy5U

So we released one from the live well and I was able to shoot some video of Carlos catching this Bass and Several pic's too. I weight her exactly 30.1 Lbs. Carlos was so stoked this being his biggest bass too. Next up was Johnny Dan's friend and he too landed a bass around the 20 Lbs mark and released it asap. Good for you Johnny.

Then Cousin Dan did the same thing as Johnny and Poor Chris didn't get to fight a big one the tide ran out on us but he did land the biggest fish before we lived lined.

The weather was PERFECT and we were treated to a Fantastic Sunset and I can't say enough about Bob and his operation. Bob is a TRUE COW HUNTER If you want a TROPHY please give this man a call. www.RainbowCharters.net and Tell him Pablo send Ya!!!

Fishing with Your Better Half

I was contacted by Capt. Ray Kelly of www.adventuresinfishing.com

about doing a Fishing show. I showed Kat the e mail and said hey why don't you e mail him and see If he would like to do a show about taking your better half fishing. Kat e mailed him and they set a date for June 20 2008.  We set out to catch some Bass and Fluke but we got out around 8:30 AM and totally missed the Bass. We tried the last of the incoming till 11 ish, but not a touch. So I switched gears and we decided to Fluke. Had action as soon as I hit the bottom. We fished near the coast guard station armed with Squid and Spearing on one of Capt. Bill's custom Fluke rigs. We landed several shorts 2 sea robins and 1 21.5" Fluke by your truly to save the day.

I rescheduled with Ray to try again for bass this time I said at 1st Light 5 AM. Capt Ray it was a great to meet you and camera man AL. You guys are great next time will spank those Bass.

So on Saturday there was the Great Gunn Shark Tournament. I didn't enter because of the TV show but I did take a ride down to see the winning Sharks. I heard from most of the Captains that the Sharking has been good and I believe 9 Mako's were landed and 1 thresher and Many Blue Sharks. I not sure if this was the final results but I left a little past 6 PM and this is what was hanging on the dock when I left

Big Blue Shark 261.5

Mako in the Middle 251

Mako on the end 231

Well we left and Mia was crying she wanted to see more sharks so I dropped off Mama and Paul Anthony and I headed back to the docks.

Mia was so interested in the Sharks it was great and I was able to grab a few shots of her next to one.

After that she wanted to go to the Shark Museum lol. So I took her to Atlantic Sea Food instead. You know the restaurant with the big Shark Jaws for a door in East Moriches. She could hardly stay seated and kept going over to the fish looking into the cases over and over asking many questions. At one point I had to bribe her with a clam to get her to sit and eat. Anyway now she has a pet clam in a bucket of salt water on the deck... Anyway you better watch out there OMD , MIA is growing fast lol...

Pop's Big Keeper Fluke

Had My Father and Kat out this afternoon. we had limited time so we decided to Fluke. Within  I'd say minutes we had 4 shorts to 18" and 2 sea robins. Then Pop says get the net!!! He pulls a nice 24" Fluke 4 plus pounds and he went home a Happy man. He says he hasn't caught a keeper fluke in 2 years. It was great to get him on a keeper!!! After 1 hour the bite died and I saw some birds working in the back of the inlet. Kat hooked up on her 1st cast but he ran zzzzzzzzzzz and spit the hook. She was mad when the Storm shad came back without a scratch. Anyway It was a good time 12:30 to 3 Pm. Keeper Fluke for Pop!!!

Water  temp was 70 Squid and Spearing did the trick by Buoy 7W

Father's Day

Headed out with Pop and my Family for some Fluke action.

We rounded the Buoy by Forge River and saw 2 Baby Deer's crossing

They Seemed to headed towards Ed the Steam Fitters House.

Then we set up for Fluking I was able to land 1 Short 18". Mia was so excited she grabbed the pole and tried to bring it in. I snapped a few

and sent it back.

The Nats and Black Flies were biting so we hardly fished for say 1 hour.

It was ok because the kids and Pop all ready had enough.

On the way home

Mia was Immaiting me and driving the boat home. On the way in I noticed some splashes well wouldn't ya know Schools of Bunkers. I got out my Cast Net 1st throw of the season perfect circle and Bam net full of Bunker. I offered them to the 2 guys trying to snag some they were VERY HAPPY.

Anyway Happy Fathers Day oh yeah we caught a small Blue too...

June 13 2008

23 Keepers Last Night

Yeah we had them good last night in Orient! 1st we trolled 6 keeper bass and 3 throw backs keeping 5 up to 20 LBS for Tim Ashton.

Not to be out done Kat also joined in and landed a few too

Pablo  landed 1 keeper I released it

Then the Sunset and we moved to the Race and the bite was on!!!

Dean Locke was BIG MAN on the ROD last night his Bass tipped the scales at 28 Lbs. This made Dean a very happy guy .

We had a Green Horn out with us our old Friend Dennis Darcy. He also Landed 2 Keeper Bass a few Blues and lost one nice one too.

I tried to get Dennis to pose some more with his Fish but I think Dennis maybe a wanted man so he wasn't camera friendly (just Joking). Anyway Kat was on to again Last night and we had a total of 23 Keepers RELEASING all but our limit of 12.

Sorry the pic didn't come out but Kat was releasing this Bass above. All in all it was a great night with old friends. We went home early and it was ok because Dennis had a LONG ride home no one complained.

BILL OUR BACKS WERE KILLING US But somehow we managed to pull threw. Anyway you were Missed.

Just would like to thank Big Capt John for another Great Night in Orient

June 12 2008

Saw an end to the Heat Wave with a nice Low pressure System heading in and got out early to Find them Bunkers. I found them all right just not in enough concentration to get my net on them.

I was up Forge River by 5 Am and tried for 1 hour to catch net a few. If I only had my Bunker Snags with me... Anyway By the time I reached the inlet the action was over. However I saw some birds working in the back of the inlet by the island. My 1st cast Bam Bass on but it was a short. Then 3 Blues 5 lbs class then another Bass and more Blue Fish then a third short Bass. All in I'd say 1/2 hour about 8 to 8:30Am.

They threw up Herring and Squid all over my boat I released all the fish except a few blues for shark bait.

Here's pic's of the bait and weapons

1st Shark Trip

Pablo, Timmy and Dean headed out Sunday for our 1st off shore adventure of 2008. Water temp was still on the low side 60-61 degrees, Ocean Temp, but we wanted to get out and the seas were perfect. As we left the Murky BROWN water of Moriches Bay, It seemed to clear up near the Inlet and Ocean was calm. We headed south east to the second set of fingers approximately 20 miles out.

We set up our Chum Slick and within I think 5 Minutes as I was letting the short line out. Dog Fish (Small, Pesky Shark) takes the bait. Pablo puts on another Blue Fish Filet, I don't even get it out and 2 or 3 of them all over it. I say to the guys lets move deeper.

We head SE about 5 more miles and a HUGE pod of Dolphin's are jumping all over. As we get closer I see a small TUNA leaps out of the water and we Immediately stop and cast to them. No takers and they were moving fast. The Dolphins however showed interest in us and began to swim all around our boat. Tim shot a 1.30 minute video of the action while I Quickly snapped a few pic's. Click below to see Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZNpKuNGPGY

I said you guys want to see something cool? I began to go fast and the Dolphins rode the front wake of my boat for quite a while.

So we had some fun but we were looking for Mr. Mako and we pressed  on. Well all of a sudden there were HUGE TUNA'S I'd say 50 Lbs class leaping and we quickly swapped out our Shark Hooks for a few Green Machines (Tuna Lures). We circled them a for about 1 hour with no knock downs and they disappeared. Well we tried once again right there to Shark and this time we didn't even put the Chum Bucket in the water and BAM dog fish city again. I said to the guys well we can go a few more miles and try again but it doesn't look good.

We ran another 5 miles now were out 30 miles approx 3rd set of fingers and the Dog Fish Population was even worse than the last 2 spots. So we trolled back to the spot where the BIG TUNAS were but they were gone only the Dolphins came back to say Hi again.

We'll that was it for us we headed back in to a spot of mine around the 1st set of finger just to see. NO GOOD MORE DOG FISH!!!

We marked huge bait schools in 85 ft of water on our way in the birds let us know something was there but Pablo only tried a 3oz Buck Tail and had to hits so that was it. Back in by 1 PM.  I believe with this weeks warmer temps the Ocean temps will go up and HOPEFULLY the DOG FISH will go away... See you out there

Pablo Arrested

Not really LOL!!!

I got Invited to fish with Dave Arrest Spot and the 4th and 6th Police Precinct.

I have to say It was one of the BEST days of Fishing  I ever had. Capt. Mike of http://www.primetime3.com/ Is a great Captain and his Boat is Top Notch! He welcomed all of us on and we hit the Gut (Fishing spot in Orient) for NON-STOP BASS and BIG BLUE ACTION. 20 Guys Diamond Jigging and I can't tell you how many we caught. I can tell you this my arms are so tired I can hardly type. We also buck tailed the Race for Even more Bass and Blues

Dave told me he had 1 more spot to fill and Carlos call me Immediately and said Pablo I'm in I need some fish. Well Carlos went home with A LOT of Bass Steaks and he was so tired he all most fell a sleep on the ride home LOL.

Everyone caught Keepers I believe there was 29 and Several throw backs and I really don't know how many BLUES.

We were treated to a feast provided by this man ARTIE of Weinsch Deli of Smithtown I hope I spelled the name right.

I can tell you that his Chicken Cutlet Hero was OUT OF THIS WORLD and his Pasta Salad was great too. In fact lol, I put some of the oil and spices on my Buck Tail and Pork Rind from the salad to land these keepers.

The pool fish was 22.5 Lbs and the runner up was 21.6 Lbs with many around the 20 LBS mark as well.
