You Should be Fishing with Pablo!!!

May 30 2008

Friday Afternoon I had Fisherman George, Lee and Mike out. I started off trying one of my good spots. Marked them good but with no Visibility we only stayed for maybe 10 minutes. We moved on down to the inlet area to see Birds working all over, picking spearing  like crazy, in the west cut. We threw everything but had no hits... So we peaked outside everyone was flounder fishing by the coast guard station, but with the past month of sketchy reports on flounders I decided to skip it. We drifted around got one fluke in the back of the inlet and a rockin Robin.

We had the incoming and we decided to anchor up and Clam. we had a few hits and course a skate or 2. Then at slack tide, the inlet began to erupt. Blue Fish invaded and we caught them on everything even the clams. So we decided to pull the hook as did everyone else and all the boats converged on the blues just outside the inlet till the outgoing started ripping and we only kept 10 for Shark Bait  . Releasing I don't know how many 007's any color did the trick . About 8 PM we set up again in a great spot and as soon as the night fell we started to pick Bass. George got his Keeper and we had a several shorts. Not to mention a few more skates. We stayed till the chum ran out getting back around 10 PM. It was great to see them catch so many fish. Big Smiles and Steaks to go home with.  It felt good to be back in the swing of things, that brown tide was bringing me down . It was great to see you again George.

So for some good news I caught a few fish in the bay Friday morning with Dean. Our usual spots were marking fish and there was a 1 ft visibility but we were able to land 2 Bass just under keeper size. 1 on a 6" Pearl colored Storm Shad the other on a Yozuri Mag Minnow. We did drift Clams but had no takers. Saw the guy next to us land 2 nice size bass on Live Bunkers. The ocean was just a bit rocky but very fishable we played around only to land 1 Bass on Yozuri MAG Minnow. Things were looking up I marked tons of bait and said to Dean this afternoon bite should be ON!!! fished 5 AM to 9 AM. Light winds Calm Seas BROWN TIDE.

There's been a Horrible Brown Tide in Moriches Bay for the past week. The results from this were SLOW fishing to say the least. I been going down to the boat everyday and the water looks like COFFEE. I decided to wait it out, not catching many fish last weekend I decided to save the Money being Gas costs $4.74 a gallon, That was last Saturday.

Look who's in the NEWS AGAIN

Here is Kat, the “new bass slayer” with one of the nice striped bass that she caught at the Gut with Captain Big John, fishing at Orient Point. The gang limited out on their first full moon Orient trip on Tuesday night and Kat was high hook!

It's in the latest Edition of www.Noreast.com

Not only Is she in Noreast Magazine

She also got into the Manorville Press Again

Katrina Peluso with a keeper bass caught out in Orient.

Here's the article

Striped Bass getting bigger as fluke are getting fewer

By Michael Wright

There was a big uptick in the size of striped bass that hit the scales this week. What had been a relatively slow start to the bass fishing year, particularly considering the warm winter, caught up in a hurry, with a bunch of fish in the 30-to-40-pound range and a handful over 50 pounds that fell to boat and surf anglers alike.
The biggest as of Monday was the 56-pounder Dave Kohlus put one of his charters onto, and a 50-pounder was taken on a clam belly off the beach in Napeague on Monday morning. With the porgy season now open we can expect to start seeing the charter boats in Montauk put more and more slobs on the scale (even though I think they should be taking a picture of the biggies and throwing them back and keeping the smaller ones for the dinner table).
For beach fishermen, the South Side of Montauk and the bay beaches in the Peconics have been the hot spots. The dark and early morning tides have been the best. Eric Ernst snuck up under the Light one night and got a jumbo at the end of the flood.
Fluke fishing is sputtering along but producing enough fish over the 20.5-inch minimum size to keep most anglers happy. The funny thing is there don’t really seem to be that many small fish around this year. The Montauk boats are finding a higher ratio of shorts to keepers, but nothing like last year, when the minimum was an inch less. Back to the west, in Shelter Island Sound and off the North Shore, most fishermen are reporting about a one-to-one ratio of keepers and shorts. Most trips are producing only one or two keepers per man, though, so the fishing is anything but red hot.
Weakfish are here but not in any great numbers really, save for two red-hot bites last week. On Sunday evening there was a shot of big weakfish, 14-to-16-pounders, at one of the locals-only beaches in North Sea. On Friday I heard the same thing happened at the mouth of the Peconic River, where big schools of bunker have been hanging around for weeks getting mauled by the bluefish. Boats working the South Race by Robins Island and the deep holes off Roses Grove have been picking up a few nice weakfish in the deep holes, too, and a few have come out of Moriches Bay, but I haven’t heard of any that come close to what the guys on the beach have gotten. The big weakies are probably just about on their spawn and likely will disappear for a week or so before moving back into the bays.
Fluke fishing continued to struggle, though there have been enough keepers and big fish to at least keep people on the hook. The party boats in Montauk are diligently working the South Side and seem to be getting a keeper or two for each person on most trips, with the pool fish usually in the neighborhood of 6 or 7 pounds.
Porgy season opened this weekend and the anglers who love the voracious saltwater panfish were not disappointed. Whoops and hollers echoed across Little Peconic Bay from the boats anchored up over chum pots off Noyac on Saturday and Sunday as monster porgies swung into their buckets. Lots of the porgies that a friend and I caught on Sunday topped 3 pounds—filleting size—and several pushed above the 4-pound mark. I even heard that a boat off Greenport landed one that weighed 7 pounds, which is an absolutely giant porgy—possibly a state record.
Speaking of records, an angler on the Viking Fleet might have set the world record for a bergall aboard a two-day offshore trip last week. The current record bergall—it’s a member of the wrasse family, sometimes called cunners, and rarely targeted by most anglers—is just 2 pounds 3 ounces. Shawn Dornblaster put a 2-pound-8-ouncer on ice aboard the Viking Starship.
There’s still some flounders to be had. Last day of the season is Friday, so get your flounder sandwiches in now.
Catch ’em up folks. See you out there.

Pablo Created a MONSTER!!!

Sorry for the very late report but I've been under the weather or more like in the weather with all this rain. So Pablo what you mean you mean you created a Monster??? We'll we went on our 1st Full Moon Orient Trip on Tues Night and guess who was High Hook?

That's right not Rain or the Cold Night Air kept Kat from catching her Bass. She was down right on fire out catching all of us with a total of 6 keeper!!!  The night started slow but of course Kat all ready had 2 in the box lol... Joe Felicia also had one too. So we buck tailed from 6:30 till 9 for 3 fish. The Gut had many birds working but no fish under neath them .

I was fighting the effects of a cold, so with the rain poring down on us I had to take a break from fishing for a while.

Thank God for all the weather proof clothing we all had.

Well after we moved to the Race things changed. The rain stopped, for once we all had time to change our wet clothing. The MOON popped out Kat kept us all entertained singing and caring on and FISH began too BITE!!!

We limited out and had to throw back a few keepers. John Federmack was big Dog with a 25 Lbs. Tim came in second on the last drift with a nice 22 lbs. As for me I was happy to caught 2 bass with the way I felt. Missing from the pic's we Johnny and Joe both of them we exhausted from the trip and said you take em...

Anyway I have created a MONSTER, she now walks around my house saying I'm the new Bass slayer lol...

Thank you Capt John for another great night of Fishing in Orient.

Here's Big John's web site http://www.sundownercharters.com/

1st Keeper Fluke, Keeper Bass and Chris Hanley 1st Ever Bass

Got up late today and hot the bay around 7 AM. Dean and Pablo plan was to hit the ocean and grab that early keeper and get home asap. As we rounded one of my favorite spots we were treated to BIRD'S working, then it was Dean throwing buck tail followed by Pablo on Storm Shad. The Rosie pulled up Pablo what's going on? Bass and Blues Capt. James, We landed 1 keeper BASS and a few shorts and 1 Blue. The Rosie I think got 5 or 6 Keepers there and lost a big one at the boat.  After Pablo landed the keeper I tried for Fluke getting 1 keeper at 20.5" and a Hair LOL!!!
RELEASED IT!!!
Talked to Crabman (Joe) He was on the Rosie hope he got one of those keepers.
Looked like the birds were working cinder worms or something so small you could not see them pick it out of the water. Plus the Bass and Blue had nothing in there stomach's.
After that we tried outside and had bird action again but no hits and no errors. The Breakers were a bit rough and I had to man the controls so we didn't stay long. Moved back by another one of my spots picked a few shorts out then moved back to where we had the keeper. No love.
So now it around 10 AM and DEAN'S phone is ringing off the hook. I tell him to answer it so it will stop or SHUT IT OFF!!!  It's his work buddy Chris Hanley. Dean goes to me look either we pick him up or I got to go. I say tell him to be at the dock in 10 minutes. Now I had every intention of just going back Fluking But Chris steps on my boat and says. Your Pablo? You know I never caught a BASS in my life and I'm a Jinx. I say we'll today your lucky day YOUR FISHING WITH PABLO.  With that I say to Dean lets try the new spot from yesterday I bet there's fish there. Well 1st drift Chris On!!!  Oh blue fish... Next drift Dean on white/Green Buck tail with Red Josh. 3rd drift Dean on again. I switch over to Buck Tail for me and Chris and Wham Chris On his 1st Bass of his life only 22" But he was stoked

Next drift or so Chris on again!!! Now this time it's a bit bigger and I say to Dean Keeper as it's pulling Drag. See I set my drag just so if a keeper hits you get a lot of ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!! So he fights with Dean coaching and Pablo playing net man. BAM 26.5" OH so close yet so far. Snap a quick pic back it goes just look at this smile below

1 Hour of fishing 4 Bass and 1 Blue for Chris Handley Dean also did the same.

At least 2 Dozen Bass for Pablo Wed May 14 2008

Had Harry and Jim out this morning and found the Bass stacked up in one of my new spots. We had double and triple hook ups for 2 hours. The fish finder looked like space invaders lol. I should have taken a picture but we were so busy I didn't have time to shoot many Pic's. All Bass were RELEASED unharmed. Although we didn't get that Keeper we came close with a few up to 27". Did have a few follow up bigger ones close but I still smoked a Cigar. Few blues mixed in not many, Storms and Buck tails did the trick again. Ocean was kicking by the time we made it out there, So we decided to try all the way home spending 2 hours on me trying to land that keeper. we picked a few more here and there. All and all we had a great time with action all over. Harry and Jim caught so many fish
2 good fisherman you guys are always welcome on my Boat

Noreast Magazine May 7 2008 issue

Just look at this Boy

What a future Bass/Girl Slayer

he'll be

That's my good friends Cary Son

About the Cover:

On the cover of our first weekly publication for the new season is future sharpie Aaron Stevens holding a striped bass caught on his dad Cary's SeaLion while fishing Long Island's Moriches Bay on May 2nd. The smile on Aaron's face says it all and makes us here at Nor'east Saltwater very happy. Dad Cary has other future anglers at home too, big brother Isaac and sister Stephanie who are eagerly awaiting the opening day of the fluke season.
We here at Nor'east Saltwater commend Cary for "taking his family fishing" and urge everyone to get their young ones out this year and have some fun. These youngsters are the future of the sport we love best so don’t let them down.
Good luck and good fishing!

Bird's Bird's Bird's

100 FISH AGAIN LAST NIGHT

WOO
Ha-Ha
HEY TIMMY CHECK THAT OUT MAN!
WHAT PABLO? WHERE?
RIGHT THERE!!!
Hey we ain't going NO-Where!

Thursday Night and I need a fight
My seven footer and a switch blade knife
Looking for Grease and you know I'm right
but what I need to make me tight

BIRD'S BIRD'S BIRD'S
long fin's and Razor teeth

BIRD'S BIRD'S BIRD'S
Diving down on a Sunset Trip

BIRD'S BIRD'S BIRD'S
Red Tips did the trick

Ok so here's the real story. I saw the calm before the storm and we had a south west wind and high tide in the bay so I figured we would
have a slam fest on the bass in a few of my spots.
We'll to make it short and sweet we had so much slip gut
SEA-WEED CRAP
that we could get a cast off with out catching it!!!
We lost 1 or 2 Storm Shads to Blues
But 1st Time in a while NO BASS???
So we head over to the inlet and we see Major bird action by buoy 17
so we throw out hopping it was Bass breaking but nope
it was BLUES BLUES BLUES
chasing Spearing again
So the 007 was once again the deadliest catch.
We tried to get under neath them but you would get hooked up and cut off. So that wasn't going to work.
So Paulie, Timmy and Pablo
caught as many as you can from 4 PM to 6 PM
leaving them BLITZING in the back of the inlet
because our hands and arms were so tired
It got so thick that I threw out the anchor and threw on the opposite side of the boat trying NOT to catch a fish  LOL!!!
No joke I would just put the 007 (diamond Jig) in the water
right next to the boat, Wiggle it and 3 or 4 would come running
like I was ringing a dinner bell.
Anyway easily over
100 FISH AGAIN LAST NIGHT

May 7 2008

Got a call from Harry Birbas, Captain Pablo me and My 2 friends would like to come out on your boat. Sure I say the bite Is ON!!!  We hit a few of my spots not much going on.

We had the Incoming tide which hasn't been producing much lately but when your fishing with Pablo that really doesn't matter .  Light Winds, sunny warm day 70 degrees and FLAT GLASS conditions. I head out to the ocean. Radio chatter not much going on... I got over to my FAVORITE spot of all time and we pick several Blues. I spot fish breaking a bit father out and we had a mini blitz by the boat resulting in several Blues. This made everyone excited and Harry seemed to have the Knack catching the most out of them all... . After a few minutes it slowed and

we headed in around one of my new spots ... I think it was a matter of a few casts when Harry hits a 24" Bass and while he's reeling it in Jimmy pole Goes BAM

doubles over and all you hear is ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!! I yell Out KEEPER!!! Get the Net and wasted no time landing a NICE 31.5" BASS!!! The Guys were ecstatic to say the least and we fished there during the slack tide for about an hour with not much happening after that . Chris's back was starting to hurt from all the casting but Jimmy and Harry got it down and were casting a country mile . So we move back to one of my other spots and Bail cocktail blues for the rest of the charter on Yozuri Crystal and Mag Minnows. We caught a lot like 30 and they kept a few for the table .  Note for self, Keeper caught on Mark Flurry's custom made Buck Tail Below with red Uncle Josh trailer. Great to have you on my Boat Harry you guys were great

Also caught a small Fluke on a Buck Tail in the ocean again too lol...

CINCO DE MAYO REPORT PABLO

 CaptainPaulPeluso@Gmail.com

Monday morn action was on the slow side with 3 Bass up to 26" and 4 Blues 3 to 7 lbs. Dean, Carlos and Mark (Iplayfair) was out with me from 6 AM to 9:30 AM. We worked the incoming tide with the wind and still had a slow pick of fish. We could have bailed more blues again but we decided to stay after the Bass. For some reason the pictures I took didn't come out but Mark did record a video of Pablo's 25" Bass. I hope he figures out how to post it??? Here's a Phone Picture from Carlos he sent me...

Connor and Ryan's 1st Bass and Blue's

Today I had no intentions of fishing, YEAH RIGHT Pablo... Really I was so tired from yesterdays battles I fell a sleep by 9 PM. So I woke up around 4 AM turned the weather on No Wind in Shirley OOOoooooooo

Rain looked like it all passed us all ready Ahhhhhhhhhhh... I was still stiff and achy from yesterday and I only had 3 hours to fish so I made a few calls and Tim asked If he could Bring his 2 Sons along. I said sure lets go!!!  Threw a call in to Johnny Keeper and we were off. Fog was thick so I Putted over to the bridge again same spot as yesterday and threw the hook. Who do we see just then walking over the bridge Bassman Peter. Hey Pablo there on the other side meaning west side go over there. Thank you I say, Hey you want to ride with us? No I got to go Peter says but thanks anyway. I yell back get your boys lets go out one day this week in the afternoon... OK!!! It starts PORING ON us but for only 10 minutes maybe.

Pablo moves over to the west side, 007's on everyone's poles Bam Connor gets his VERY 1st FISH EVER.

Click Here for this priceless  Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUVIWulAf0g

After a few fish later Connor was on fire Yelling that he must have been BORN with this Talent lol and that He was going for the NEW WORLDS RECORD of Fish. See Video #2 Below

http://youtube.com/watch?v=m0VchVLCeU4

We made sure he was HIGH HOOK and kept encouraging him that He Had a NEW WORLD RECORD of 18 fish in 3 hours. See this was the 1st Time Connor ever went fishing so to him It is a WORLD RECORD and I we all played along.

We'll not to be out done by his younger  Brother Ryan was casting and hooking up on I believe 14 Fish? He actually set the tone of low and slow, by which I mean he would Cast Out and reel slow and BANG hook up again and again. After a while it slowed down but we could hear Birds Screaming behind us. So Pablo pulled the hook and we drifted up on them. Bam Ryan's On with his VERY 1st BASS EVER!!! How cool was that? Of Course I got it on Video. Just wish I knew it was a Bass I missed the fight part but here it is anyway

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yxuSi0G-nQ

After a Quick Release we moved back up on the same Drift and Bam Dad On(Timmy) with a bit bigger Bass.

So we move back up one more time Zip my line out PABLO ON!!!

Ooooooooooo this one got some shoulders ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz it's a keeper... She's fight hard looks like a 30" get it right to the boat just before the net jumps shakes the head twice and throws the 007 right up at me. I had to block it with my arm so it wouldn't hit me in the Face. Good thing I have good reflexes. But next drift I did Manage 1 schoolie So All was good by 9 AM we all had to go so back to the dock and that's when the fog finally lifted Figures But what a day the Kids will never forget.

Blues Guesstimation 70 to 80 there was 4 of us

Bass 4 losing the keeper at the boat Hey you can't win all the time

Seeing your sons catch there very 1st fish Priceless!!!

HOW MANY BOUNCE'S???

Got a call from Tom(stripersniper93)hey Pablo you got any room on your boat today? Sure come on down!!! So we were suppose to have 2 other guys as well but they never made it. Too Bad for them this turned out to be 1 Hell of a day of Fishing!!! We left the dock at 6 AM I'd say 10 MPH winds all ready we putt over to the Bridge and what's staring us in the face BIG BLUE FISH BLITZ and 20 Mph plus winds!!! Click this link to see the days conditions

So we quickly put on 007's diamond Jigs and A-17's and between Pablo, Timmy and Tom we hooked around 25 on the low side a piece. We were saying things like, how many bounces off the bottom does it take to catch a Fish? Huh 1, Huh 2, Huh 3 WHAM!!!  Pablo On!! So it takes 3 Jigs off the bottom LOL!!!

So after an SOLID hour of BLUES we decided to go looking for some Bass. So we moved to Pablo's spot's try for a few drifts 1 Bass and a few more Blues. So we decide to go over to where it's been HOT these past few days. More Blues and 1 more Bass for Timmy. So I say lets try this NEW SPOT I found with Carlos. We head over there and had a steady Pick of Bass and Blues for a about another hour or so. I get a heads up call from Cary come on back there starting to bite. I say lets go and we head back to that spot. We again hook up on some more Blues but the wind has gotten so strong by this time we decide to call it quits and head back to dock by 11 ish.

TOTAL for the day 6 BASS up to 27"

EASY 60 BLUES only keeping 10 of the smallest for SHARK BAIT

So Give Pablo a call and get  FISHING!!!

You Should be Fishing with Pablo!!!

Bass-a-rumba, Bass-a rumba

You Should be fishing with Pablo!!!
BASS A RUMBA!!!
BASS A RUMBA!!!
YOU SHOULD BE FISHING WITH PABLO!!!
El Cap-a-tain, El Cap-a-tain
Bass A Rumba!!!
Bass A Rumba!!!
Ok here's the real story Carlos called me the other day Pablo I'm off from work and I need to get out and Fish. I say No problem My good Friend Lets go. We head out an extra 1/2 hour early 5:30 AM because I've been hitting the Bass at 1st light.
Temps were on the CHILLY side my car read 36 degrees and I had to scrape off the Ice that build up on my boat's wind Shield
We stop at my 1st spot and throw around several different lures for 1 hour with no results???
So we decide to go to my other spot that's been producing for me lately.
We try a Varity of plugs and Lures there as well and land 1 24"Bass and 1 BIG CHOPPER BLUE on top water plug.
So now it's around 8:30-9 Am and I say lets head over to the Inlet area I had some good Blue Fish Action there.
We try all around inside and out the Moriches Inlet no luck???
So we go around the east cut and long behold we see some birds working and 2 boats on them. I pull up grab my pole and throw my big top water plug. ZIP, ZIP, ZIP I raise a big swirl ZIP, ZIP, ZIP I can see 4 Bass coming off the bottom about to attack my plug. The water is so CLEAR I can see 15 to 20 feet down and I also notice a blue streaking in from the side. ZIP, ZIP, ZIP I'm running out of room so I twitch the plug a little all the fish at the same time take off. Carlos and I were speechless saying to each other did you see that?
We were able to land another Bass about 25" on a Yellow Smile Bill Buck Tail with red Uncle Josh Trailer but that was it. The other 2 boats also landed a fish or 2 but it petered out at high slack tide.
So there we were 5:30 Am to 9:30 Am 2 short Bass, keeper has to be 28" and 1 big blue.
Winds, dead calm, rising air temp, Water so GIN CLEAR you can not only see the bottom but  we could make out STAR FISH and CRABS as well.

So I say to Carlos lets go back over to my spot we'll now have the slight wind with the tide. Pablo was throwing a 6" Pearl colored Storm Shad so I didn't bother to change it.
1st cast PABLO ON!!!

Now I didn't care it was 24" it felt good to have the pole bend again. I quickly snapped the picture above and cast out again BAM! PABLO ON!!! Same size fish back he goes. A few Cast's later BAM! PABLO ON AGAIN!!!
This time I could feel the weight and the the fish was pulling some drag. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!! I yell get the net and we land the 1st 31" Keeper Bass!!!
Carlos makes the fastest change onto a Pearl Storm Shad and WHAM CARLOS ON!!!
Now the both of us have had days where you catch a lot of fish but that day was like a Fall Blitz
BASS AFTER BASS came up all most on every cast. We caught so many I actually lost Track.

We had them good for 2.5 hours till the tide changed and our arms. hands and backs were killing us
but it was ALL GOOD!!! I was able to land TWIN BASS of 31" and Carlos came so close with a 27.75". Just missing the 28" Keeper limit... We'll get em again Carlos for sure.
Pablo's in the Manorville Press again

With fishing locally still sputtering into gear, lots of East Enders headed up to the North Shore to get in on the hot blackfish bite. Paul Peluso got this beauty on the Celtic Quest out of Port Jefferson.

You had to know the warm weather wasn’t going to last. But this is really how it should be. That 70-degree stuff is for the birds. It’s spring and this is New York. The ocean is still 50 degrees, the air should be too.
I’ve been hearing a lot of talk over the last couple cold and drizzly days about how it doesn’t look like the fishing in some of the early hot spots is going to happen this year. Not so, I say; things are just getting warmed up.
It was this week last year that the first fish started to show up. There weren’t any squid, no keeper bass had been taken yet and nary a sign of a weakfish had been seen. Then all of a sudden that first week of May there were weakfish and keeper stripers popping up all over—those jumbo weakfish that came out of Heady Creek were taken on May 2, and the first keeper stripers had only beaten them there by a day or two.
Everything is about a week ahead of last year, possibly because the water is a bit warmer after a mild winter and a fairly warm spring. The first keeper stripers came out of Moriches, Shinnecock and Montauk on the warm mornings late last week—nothing big, but keepers and maybe a couple fish in the low teens. The bigger ones will be in as soon as the sun comes back out.
Squid showed up in monster numbers in Fort Pond Bay over the weekend, so there were plenty of folks out hunting for this summer’s fluke baits and maybe a couple calamari appetizers. I haven’t heard of any having pushed west into Shelter Island Sound, but maybe the east wind will push them into the bay.
A bad sign for the prospects of a prolonged squid presence was the appearance of bluefish in just about every bay this week. Big ones and little ones. The choppers seem to be mostly in Moriches and off Sag Harbor, where the bunker are still present. Shinnecock had mostly little cocktails, in case you’re looking for some smoking-sized fillets for those Memorial Day weekend parties. A couple weakfish came up here and there, but I’m worried we may be entering another down-swing in weakfish populations. There were lots of young ones last year, but the draggers really put a hurting on them down south. Fluke are set up, just waiting to hear from the regulators. Looks like May 15 is going to be the day. I love spring. I wish summer would never come. Catch ’em up, folks. See you out there.
Striped bass tournament
Sporting enthusiasts will have an opportunity to support next fall’s duck hunting with this spring’s bass fishing next month when the Ducks Unlimited Invitational Striped Bass Tournament kicks off what DU hopes will be an annual event in Montauk. The tournament will take place the weekend of June 6 to 9 at the Montauk Yacht Club. Fishing this year will be on Saturday, June 7, with an awards ceremony, banquet and live auction at the club that night. The entry fee is $100 per angler, and there will be cash and trophies awarded. The largest fish of the tournament wins a free mount from Fish Unlimited Taxidermy.
   Special Ducks Unlimited dinner
The Eastern Long Island chapter of Ducks Unlimited will host a special cookout dinner on Wednesday, May 14, at the Water Mill Community House. There will be burgers and dogs and homemade chili and beer and soda on ice, all you can eat and drink. Tickets are $25. The DU boys will be raffling off dozens of collectible decoys and working decoy packages as well as other hunting gear. They want to plan ahead for the size of the crowd, so no tickets will be sold at the door. To reserve a spot for you and your young hunters, call Duane Arnister at 726-0015 or Mark Borucke at 283-6041.
   Safe boat class
The East Hampton Sail and Power Squadron will hold its Boat Smart Class on boat handling and safety on Tuesday evenings this month at the Bridgehampton National Bank headquarters in Bridgehampton. For information, contact Wilbert Holmer at 324-5364.
